It’s been a difficult time.

We have been making hard decisions with our company to keep running all our shops. We want to be available for our customers who need us across Texas. But we know all of you are facing different challenges with the current situation as well.

As you probably know, many of our employees have been furloughed. Unfortunately, our shops are not bringing in as many cars as we need to keep paying everyone.

We plan to keep our stores open throughout the term of this crisis and bring our furloughed employees back to a stable and healthy workplace. Until then, if you are one of our team members who has been furloughed, here is the page to apply for unemployment benefits.

We want you to know we are SO appreciative of all of you who have done (and continue to do) amazing work for our customers on a daily basis. You have been providing people with a safe mode of transportation and peace of mind. That is why we are an essential business.

We also want you all to make time for yourselves and your peace of mind. We have a few resources in this newsletter to help you take a breath and recharge during this stressful time.

Be good to one another and keep being a positive force for your families and communities.

- Vince Brock, ProCare CEO

Take some time to take care of yourself

Catch up on sleep

When you’re stressed, it’s especially hard to catch the Zs you need.
  • Remember to stay away from caffeine at night and go to bed at a set time every night.
  • Power down at least a half-hour before bed.
  • Have a nightly ritual. Whatever you do, this helps signal to your body that it’s time to wind down.

De-stress

You might need to take some time to yourself, especially if you are quarantined with several people. Even if this means sitting in the car and listening to music for 15 minutes, carving out some time to clear your mind can do wonders.
  • Try meditation. Some apps like Headspace offer free guided meditation for beginners. It doesn’t matter if you’re not “good” at it or if you don’t always enjoy it - sometimes even just slowing your brain down to try can help.
  • Exercise. For some, this is a good alone-time activity that not only clears your head but releases some feel-good endorphins.
  • Do something you enjoy. Think about what makes you feel great. For many, this is a creative activity or it could mean making cookies with the kiddos or rewatching your favorite TV show. The key is to think about what activities are rewarding to you.
  • Express your feelings. You might consider writing in a journal. Writing down your thoughts and feelings can have an enormously positive effect on your mental wellness.

Stay healthy

You might be washing your hands and keeping your distance, but this is only part of staying healthy. To reinforce your immune system, you should get a variety of nutrients every day. This helps your body run more efficiently and give your immune system even more power to fight off COVID or the common cold.
  • Eat veggies. If you’re not used to eating veggie regularly, try to start incorporating them in foods you normally eat. Throw some spinach into a sandwich. Mix cooked broccoli in with your next pasta dish.
  • Drink water. We function best when we’re well-hydrated. Water removed toxins from the body that can have a negative impact on your immune system.
  • Stay home. Even if you have to work, try to limit the places you visit during this time. Limit the number of people you interact with. You might just save someone’s life.

Chicken Bacon Ranch Bubble-Up Bake

Savory comfort food in a one-dish dinner
Prep Time 10 mins
Cook Time 40 mins
Total Time 50 mins
Servings 8

Ingredients

  • cooking spray
  • 6 slices bacon
  • 6 tbsp butter
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 6 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 3 large heads of broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 3 cups shredded chicken
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuits
  • 2 tsp ranch seasoning mix

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9"x13" baking dish with the cooking spray.
  • Cook the bacon in a large skillet until crispy. Let the cooked bacon set on a paper-towel-lined plate. Wipe the skillet clean and add the butter. Melt over medium heat.
  • Whisk in the flour and cook until bubbly. This should take about 1 minute. Stir in milk gradually and bring to a simmer. Cook until it thickens (about 2 minutes). Season with salt and pepper and stir in the broccoli before taking off of the heat.
  • Spread this broccoli mixture on the bottom of the baking dish, then layer the chicken on top.
  • Cut the biscuits into eighths and scatter on top of the chicken. Top with crumbled bacon and sprinkle with ranch seasoning. Bake about 25 minutes or until biscuits are golden and cooked through.
